Home Repair Service for Seniors

Sometimes small things can make a big difference. That’s the philosophy behind the First Ward Action Council’s Home Repair Service for seniors.

The council employs a staff of skilled technicians to do small, but necessary, repair jobs helping seniors to continue living in their homes. Homeowners pay for materials while the council supplies skilled labor free of charge.

Jobs can include installing new faucets, rebuilding stairs, installing dead bolt lock and countless other repairs.

The service does a couple of hundred jobs each year, primarily in the City of Binghamton and Town of Union, CDBG funding being provided by both municipalities. Seniors are assisted elsewhere in Broome County, but due to funding limitations, only on a time available basis. To receive assistance, homeowners must be 55 years of age, or older and meet income and program guidelines.
